Membership


UTS BIG, while being founded within the IT department, is open to students of all degrees, faculties and universities. Membership details are as follows:

Yearly Membership fees are:
* $5 for returning members and UTS Union members
* $10 - other
UPDATE: Membership for the 2nd semester is now $5 for everyone!

Membership includes:

  • discounted entry to all our events.
  • Free membership for the Australian Computer Society (ACS): This is usually valued at $60 for students and $160 for recent graduates. This includes a yearly PC Authority Magazine subscription amongst many other benefits. Please note that free ACS membership only applies to those that signed up in First Semester.

2010 events include:

  • Social Events
    • Motion X: As our flagship event for the first semester, the 2010 Annual Harbour Cruise was simply incredible. With very competitive cruise ticket prices, and a complimentary drink at the Cargo Bar Afterparty, it was an extremely successful night. Over 200 tickets were sold.
    • The BiG Bar Tab Night: Held at the loft, this Thursday night event was another huge success. Tickets were sold out.
    • Spring Break at the Glasshouse: [Unconfirmed] Sci V Sci has invited BiG to join up with them on the on the last teaching day of university before the mid semester break. To be held on the 19th of September.
    • The UV Paint Party: To be held on the 22nd of October in conjunction with the UTS union. This will be the Official End of Semester Party for UTS. There will be lots of water-based UV paint, Black Lights everywhere, live DJs and strategically placed drop sheets to protect the Glasshouse from becoming too dirty. It is going to go off!
    • 2010 BiG Finale: Date and Venue TBA. As our final event for the year, this will consist of free entry for members, just to say thanks for supporting us through an extremely successful year.
  • Academic/Career Focused Events
    • The Engineering and IT O-Camp: This event was organised to assist new students in the transition from High School to University life. It was a great opportunity for the new students to meet the BiG executive team, and find out about what BiG had to offer them. In order to assist the first years in finding their way socially within the university, BiG gave free membership to all attendees of the IT camp.
    • Deloitte Innovation Workshop: This was an event run by BiG, The UNSW IT Society and Deloitte. It was aimed at developing team work and creative thinking, and giving members the opportunity to network with Deloitte employees. Members who attended were also able to enquire about paid summer internships, and the kind of work that would be expected of them.
    • The Career Information Night: To be held on the 28th of October, at the new Ariel Function Centre [The date may change, depending on the availability of the venue]. This event will be free for all IT students at UTS. It will be aimed at informing students of the many different jobs and departments within the IT industry. There will be between 4 to 6 key speakers from various large IT-focused organizations, that will each give a 15 minute presentation. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for students to talk face-to-face.
